With this Homemade Holiday Eggnog Recipe you won't have to wait for the holidays to come around to enjoy this festive drink. This recipe is great for using in baking as well, if you're looking to add a unique flavor to a cake, pie or other confection. This thick, creamy, cinnamon drink traditionally include bourbon, however, if you're making this for your kids, you can exclude the alcohol. This is a great drink to make in large batches for holiday parties, but no matter the occasion, it's always nice to be able to make things at home that you'd normally have to buy at the store.

Notes

This recipe includes uncooked eggs, which are not recommended for people with compromised immune systems. Or use pasteurized eggs only.

I fix this pretty red hot drink every year. It uses apple juice not apple cider, ca can of Sprite or 7-up, red hot imperials candies cloves, cinnamon sticks. You put the apple juice and Sprite in an electric percolator and put the cinnamon sticks, cloves , and red hot candies and let it perk. It is called Percolator Cider.

I can't believe how easy this is to make...I'm always craving eggnog (minus the alcohol) but I usually have to wait until the holidays to have it. So this is my new favorite recipe of the year, but doesn't it need to be cooked to prevent salmonella? I think I've read somewhere that sugar actually cooks the eggs in the beating process but I'm not certain how true that may be. Either way, I'll be sure to get the pasteurized eggs just to be safe.

I have fond memories of my grandmother - in - law making homemade eggnog around Christmas time. It was delicious. Out of nostalgia, I bought a packaged carton eggnog product at the supermarket a few years ago and it was terrible. Had to spit it out. This recipe has a great flavor. If omitting the alcohol for the kids, it might be fun to add a few drops of red or green plant - based food coloring for a festive touch!

I have always wanted to try making my own eggnog. I love it. I have read from other cooks that eggnog benefits from aging, Not sure for how long though. Is this true? And how long would be ideal. I think aging would work if you are using the alcohol, but not if it is left out.
