An easy recipe for individual apple crumble servings. This gluten-free apple crumble recipe is a healthy & easy dessert made in individual ramekins or mini cast iron skillets, but can be made in a baking dish.

You can thank me later! I am sharing my recipe for Individual Apple Crumbles or , if you prefer, as you’ll read below Individual Apple Crisps! Enjoy!

For years, whenever we go to my parent’s home for dinner, mom prepares a dessert, which is always a variation on the same theme. It’s become expected that Grammie will be making a berry crisp or a berry crumble or a berry grunt or a berry cobbler for dinner or an apple crumble recipe, you could also substitute peach and/or apple for the berry, so the combinations are vast.

Not only would we all be REALLY disappointment without the crisp/crumble/grunt/cobbler for dessert, but it would rob us of our long-running giggle because none of us knows the difference between a crisp or a crumble or a grunt or a cobbler even though Grammie announces with culinary authority that ‘tonight’s dessert is a berry grunt, but last time it was a crumble.”

So, with great respect to Grammie and in homage to her desserts and knowing I love to use cast iron skillets or ramekins to make individual sized servings, I prepared this individual apple crumble recipe, made in our small cast iron skillets, for dessert. And I can say that these are definitely apple crumbles because I crumbled the topping over the apples.

I used my little cast iron skillet for these apple crumbles, but you could easily use ramekins. We love those skillet brownies and always look for ways to use these little cast iron cuties.

I used Golden Delicious apples for this dessert solely because organic apples are so expensive, and these were on sale! However, in doing a little investigation, it seems that a great deal of research has gone into determining the best baking apples and Golden Delicious apples always seem to top the charts!

And not only that, but they stack well under the practiced hands of a 16-year old!

In the interest of keeping our sugar consumption under control, we don’t often have desserts. When we do, I usually try to reduce the sugar in the recipe. Sugar, like salt, is one of those things whose consumption can creep up on you.

I do believe that the more you have of these elements, the more you get used to them and then need more to satisfy the need. I kept sugar out of the apple mix but did use some in the topping of these individual apple crumbles. Similarly with gluten for me. While I don’t have any chronic conditions that prevent me from including it in my diet, I do find I just feel better if I avoid it as much as possible. So, knowing how much we love our crisps/crumbles/cobblers, etc. using these, cute little cast iron skillets to whip up this individual gluten free apple crumble recipe is perfect!
