Spring is that very welcome visitor who comes bearing flowers and sunny gifts to cheer you after you’ve been housebound one day too long.

Spring isalso that houseguest that comes to visit and you hope continues to extend its stay; itis such a gentle buffer between the relatively harsher seasons of winter and summer.

The two flower pots/urns on my porch echo the green and white in the frame with Scotch moss, Creeping Jenny and Summer White Sandwort. I am hopeful that these pots will transition well through the summer; I am looking forward to the moss and creeping jenny flowing over the side of the container.

‘Moss painting’ has been on my ‘I want to try that’ list for some time and really considered giving it a try this spring. In fact, I went so far as scooping up pieces of moss wherever I saw it, yes…even in public spaces.

So, get this picture in your head…me, walking out of our local Ulta store, spying some moss growing between the brick pavers outside of the store and… yes…squattingdown right then and there, prying some of the moss out from between those pavers, and putting it in my empty tea carafe in the car. Yup…I did that. Can you say front porch decorating ideas for spring gone mad!

It would have been one thing to do that in front of, say a garden store. But to do it in front of Ulta, the makeup and beauty products store, is a completely different thing altogether.

But I had my cup full of moss and just needed to swing by the grocery store to gather one of the other ingredients for the moss paint. As I strolled through the aisles of the grocery store the buy the necessary yogurt I suddenly remembered…”Wait! I have this new Cricut! I wonder…”

So instead of going on regular moss scavenging missions, I merely cut my words out of fake ‘grass’ like you use for dioramas or model train layouts and glued the letters on an old piece of slate that I found at our local salvage store. Presto…I was done. Such an easy and helpful DIY spring craft.

And in case you are wondering, I plantedmy scavenged moss into an existing pot, so my efforts were not wasted.
